Providing legal services for adoptions and family law

                         

Rachael Toft is an experienced trial attorney. She graduated from Illinois State University, summa cum laude, with a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average. She earned her Juris Doctor, with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law. In law school, she completed numerous courses and seminars in all areas of family law, as well as writing for the Journal of Gender, Race & Justice.

Previously, Ms. Toft worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney handling juvenile abuse and neglect cases. Ms. Toft then continued in private practice concentrating exclusively in family law issues.  She represented clients in marriage dissolution proceedings, child support, child custody, and visitation proceedings.  Ms. Toft has tried numerous cases and is very comfortable in the courtroom advocating for her clients.

In addition to her professional practice, Ms. Toft is intimately familiar with adoption issues.  Raised in a licensed DCFS foster home, she is one of nine children, six of whom are adopted.

She is a member of the American Bar Association (Family Law Division), the Illinois State Bar Association (Family Law Section), the Chicago Bar Association and Women's Bar Association of Illinois.  She is active with the Chicago Bar Association's  Adoption Committee, Domestic Relations Committee, and the Young Lawyers Section Family Law Committee.  Ms. Toft recently completed her year of leadership as the Chair of the Chicago Bar Association's Adoption Law Committee for 2009-2010. She served as the Vice Chair for 2008-2009.

Rachael volunteers with the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation on issues related to adoption and guardianship.  She also serves as a volunteer court facilitator for the Cook County Domestic Relations Division.  She is also active with the Illinois State University's pre-law program.  She has served on the ISU Attorneys Advisory Board since 2001.
